Green light for new Gentoo Homes development in Darlington

Gentoo Homes has been given the go ahead to start work at West Park, its first ever housing development in Darlington.

The new development, which forms part of the larger ‘Westpark Garden Village’, has been granted permission by Darlington Borough Council and will feature 108 family homes.

The Sunderland-based home builder, which is the private development arm of affordable housing provider Gentoo Group, is expecting to start on site this summer.

Westpark Garden Village will be home to a range of properties, with three, four and five bedroom homes set to be available for sale to help match local housing needs.

The unique design of the development, on the current Mount Pleasant Farm site, will take influence from traditional craftsmanship and the arts and crafts movement of the 19th century, with 1200 homes planned for construction in the surrounding area.

David Thomas, Technical Director for Gentoo Homes said: “I’m delighted our new Westpark Garden Village development has been given the green light from Darlington Council and we look forward to working with key stakeholders in the area to create an outstanding place to live.

“We are committed to delivering high quality new homes in sought after locations and this exciting development in Darlington is a great way to expand our offering in the North East, while also helping to meet the growing demand for new homes in this area.”

Ian Williams, Darlington Borough Council’s Director of Economic Growth and Neighborhood Services, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Gentoo Homes to Darlington and they will be a welcome addition to the West Park development.”
