Fronius Symo marches on to 20 kW

Fronius, the quality leader from Austria, unveils its latest innovation: the Fronius Symo inverter in power categories up to 20 kW will be launched in 2014. From this point on, customers will have at their disposal a comprehensive range of Fronius Symo products covering 3 to 20 kW.

“Our innovations are coming thick and fast. In 2013 we introduced the new Fronius Symo inverters in the 3.0 kW to 4.5 kW power categories. March 2014 will see the launch of 5.0 to 8.2 kW devices, followed soon afterwards by our latest innovation: the Fronius Symo in power categories up to 20.0 kW,” proudly explains Martin Hackl, head of the Fronius Solar Electronics division.

From March 2014 onwards, all inverters in the series will also be available with two MPP trackers. Devices up to 20 kW may be purchased from April 2014. “To begin with, the Fronius Symo 20.0-3-M will be launched in Germany, Austria and Switzerland before expanding into other markets,” adds Martin Hackl. While Fronius Symo inverters up to 8.2 kW are ideal for smaller PV systems, the devices up to 20 kW have been designed to meet the particular needs of commercial operations. With this range Fronius once again reaffirms its position in both the Residential and Small & Medium Commercial markets.

Fronius Symo stands for maximum flexibility

The high system voltage (up to 1000 V), wide input voltage range (150 to 800 V), two MPP trackers and unrestricted use both indoors and outdoors ensure maximum flexibility in system design. Countless additional benefits include low installation and system costs thanks to maximum string lengths plus minimal conduction losses owing to the high system voltage. Furthermore, every string can be connected directly to the inverter, dispensing completely with the need for any additional combiner boxes or string fuses.

Wireless access to the internet is easy to achieve through WLAN, while integrated standard interfaces facilitate a connection to third-party suppliers. The built-in Power Control Card function establishes a direct communication link between the inverter and the ripple control receiver. An integrated web server turns configuration work into child’s play.

The most communicative inverter on the market

A WLAN or Ethernet internet connection as standard plus the built-in datalogger and easy integration of third-party components make the Fronius Symo one of the most communicative inverters on the market.

Comprehensive data communication is already an inherent feature of the device, regardless of whether this is conducted via a web server, datalogger or interfaces to external systems, such as a Loxone home automation system. An additional benefit is the free online monitoring through Fronius Solar.web, allowing the system owner to keep a constant eye on the yields produced by their PV system.

Future-proof in every respect

With its innovative plug-in card technology, the Fronius Symo inverter is future-proof in every respect. Possible future challenges, such as an expansion of the energy management system, connection to building management systems or an arc detector, have already been taken into account.

The connection area of the inverter1 has enough space for two DIN rail-mountable surge arresters for indirect lightning strikes. And like all Fronius inverters, the Fronius Symo series is also Smart Grid Ready. This relieves the load on the grid and, at the same time, safeguards the yield. Optimised self-consumption is assured through the built-in energy management relay that is fitted as standard. IP 66 protection makes the Fronius Symo inverter1 a fully capable indoor and outdoor inverter, which is even suitable for installation in unsheltered outdoor locations.

The Fronius Symo inverter series has also been recognised for its high quality, functionality and ecological properties by winning an international technology prize – the Plus X Award.
