Edinburgh Marina wins yet another planning appeal

Edinburgh Marina Holdings, the developer of Edinburgh Marina, recently announced that they have secured another successful planning appeal with detailed consent granted by the Scottish Government to develop The Moorings, comprising 100 spacious one, two and three bedroom apartments with direct access to the new Edinburgh Marina.

The Moorings will provide residents with a unique waterside setting only 2.5 miles from Edinburgh city centre. The apartments will include duplex penthouses and garden apartments with their own private patio gardens overlooking the new Edinburgh Marina which will have 427 berths and 24/7 access at all states of tide. Prospective purchasers of apartments will have the opportunity to reserve a berth at the same time as they reserve their apartment.

In his decision notice, the Reporter stated: ‘I find that the layout, materials, design, height and density of the proposal are appropriate to the location… the proposed use of zinc cladding and larger windows on the upper floors and recessed vertical sections all contribute to a modern appearance, in keeping with the completed blocks. This helps to provide a sense of place which ties in with the council’s aspirations for the wider masterplan area and drawing on the positive characteristics of the area.’

Built around an expansive landscaped garden, all apartments include an Electric Vehicle (EV) enabled secure underground parking space; this is believed to be the first apartment block in Edinburgh and Scotland to incorporate this feature ensuring the state-of-the-art development is future proofed for years to come. Expertly designed, The Moorings will provide bespoke interiors with nearly all the bedrooms benefiting from en suite bathrooms and showers along with modern kitchens along with spacious balconies and 24 hour concierge service.

The £500 million Edinburgh Marina development is leading the charge for the Edinburgh Waterfront regeneration in Granton. Strong pre-sales enquiries have already been recorded for the first phase of Royal Wharf – Living for Retirement, Edinburgh Marina’s luxury retirement scheme, demonstrating a widespread appetite for waterside homes just a stones-throw from the Scottish capital.

In addition to The Moorings and the luxury retirement living, the world class development includes the new 427 berth Edinburgh Marina, Hyatt Regency Spa and Conference hotel and serviced apartments and local neighbourhood shopping with a medical centre. Phase one of the development will create over 850 permanent new employment opportunities for the local community, together with one of the highest percentage of affordable homes which is over double the percentage agreed with the Council and above their latest standard.

Charles Price, who is the Edinburgh Marina asset manager and responsible for the Masterplan said:

“We are delighted that the Scottish Government recognised that this scheme provides a sense of place and also the significant value of Edinburgh Marina will have on the local the community. The Moorings will provide more much needed homes as part of our vision for a world-class waterside destination for Scotland.”
