London-based architecture practice DRAISCI STUDIO is delighted to unveil its winning visitor lounge design for The Royal Institute of British Architects’ (RIBA) London region at MIPIM UK 2015, the UK’s largest domestic exhibition and conference for property professionals. The event will run at Olympia London from 21 to 23 October.
DRAISCI STUDIO’s winning design evokes the world of architecture in the most open sense, from Lego child’s play to the creation of large modular buildings. The design explores architecture that seamlessly combines spatial concerns with sculptural texture and colour in a vibrant and joyful environment.
Occupying a large 200m2 area in the exhibition hall of Olympia London, the ‘RIBA MIPIM UK Visitor Lounge’ by DRAISCI STUDIO is a temporary structure which has been created with 160 modules made of honeycomb cardboard.
Each module weighs less than 2kg and is connected to other modules with dry joints. No screws or nails have been used to assemble the lounge. All components are completely flat-packed and will be recycled after use to minimise the construction waste.
The overall design has been developed in collaboration with structural engineering company, Techniker, and the result is a considered and sustainable space that is welcoming and stimulating for visitors.
The visitor lounge, which is open to all delegates as a place to take a break from networking and hold a business meeting, is to highlight the partnership between RIBA and MIPIM UK, whilst also promoting a newly published report from RIBA called ‘Client and Architect: Developing the Essential Relationship.’ The special report, one of the legacies of Stephen Hodder’s two-year RIBA Presidency, provides practical advice from clients and architects about how to improve their services and unlock greater value.
