Cycle ride for Habitat for Humanity

H+H’s Director of Housing, Neil Thomas, is set to ride 1000 miles in aid of charity when he cycles from the tip of Scotland to the depths of Cornwall in May.

With the aim of fundraising £1 per mile, Neil will set out on May 19 to complete the famous John O’Groats to Land’s End cycle route for Habitat for Humanity.

The challenge is all part of a larger focus for Neil who in June will travel as part of a 12-member contingent of partners from H+H customer, Miller Homes, to Malawi to support Habitat for Humanity’s WaSH (water, sanitation and hygiene) programme.

H+H is supporting Neil in his trip which will see the team build new homes for orphans and vulnerable children in Salima, Malawi with the £1000 raised going straight to Habitat for Humanity to fund a new bridge in the Chikwawa district. The bridge is essential to allow for the construction of vital sanitation facilities servicing Mazongoza Primary School.

Of the commitment from its supply chain, Garry McDonald, Miller Homes’ Procurement and Sustainability Director, said: “We have a fantastic team joining us on the trip and I am so proud of my suppliers for their enthusiasm and commitment to taking part in this initiative and supporting our nominated charity, Habitat for Humanity.”

Neil’s 14-day adventure begins from John O’Groats and will see him visit iconic locations including Loch Lomond before finishing at Land’s End on June 1. H+H will be tracking his journey and you can follow his progress via H+H’s social media channels where videos and photos will showcase the challenge.

Neil explains,

“This is genuinely a great cause and the homes that we will be building are going to some very deserving people. I think the whole charity thing has been tainted in recent times so to be actually going out to see first-hand the impact that we are having is important. It’s going to be challenging for sure but very rewarding at the same time.”
