Kingston Council’s Strategic Housing and Planning committee meeting on the 8th November announced that Countryside, one of the UK’s leading home builders specialising in placemaking and regeneration, has been selected as the preferred development partner to work with the council and local residents on the regeneration of the Cambridge Road Estate.
The vision for the 8.6-hectare project is to create much-needed, high-quality affordable and private homes, new public spaces and local amenities – resulting in a scheme that meets the needs and aspirations of the community. The project is expected to be completed across five phases over a 12-year period.
Residents will be able to vote on the proposals through a ballot, putting them at the centre of decision-making and enabling them to shape the new community.
Mike Woolliscroft, Managing Director for Partnerships South (West), Countryside said:
“We are honoured to have been selected by Kingston Council to work with the council and local residents to redevelop the Cambridge Road Estate.
“The regeneration of the Cambridge Road Estate regeneration is vitally important for local residents, for Kingston, and the industry as a whole. Through working in partnership with the community and the council we will ensure that this project is delivered for the benefit of existing residents and the wider community. We’re excited to seize this opportunity and continue our track record for setting best practice in estate regeneration.
“We’ve been highly impressed by the level of commitment from both the council and residents throughout this competitive process. The engagement from residents so far has been extremely instructive, and we’re looking forward to progressing this following the completion of the procurement process.
“This is a development that will put the local community first, not only through the extensive consultation on the proposals, but also by giving local people first priority on purchasing the completed homes. We’re looking forward to embarking upon this journey with residents, the council and the existing community.”
Councillor Liz Green, Leader of Kingston Council said:
“Having selected Countryside as our preferred development partner, we are excited to be able to move onto the next phase of the redevelopment of the Cambridge Road Estate – meeting our commitment to deliver new homes and amenities working with local residents.
“Countryside has a wealth of experience in delivering successful estate regeneration schemes and is known for putting local communities first. We look forward to working with them to provide the area with the much-needed investment in new housing and public realm”.
