Comar Architectural Aluminium Systems are delighted to have been part of the Mossley Hill Church project

Comar Architectural Aluminium Systems, with their approved fabricator K2 Aluminium Systems are delighted to have been part of the Grade II Mossley Hill Church project working in partnership with Liverpool based Denovo Design Architects.

Working in collaboration with Council Planning, Conservation Officers and Historic England this historic building which stands proudly at the top of Rose Lane in South Liverpool is Mossley Hill Church’s Hilltop Centre. Since 2011 the Church has been on a transformational journey, reordering inside the church building and renovating the church rooms. This project has been awarded 2 Green Apple Built Environment awards: Silver Winner – Beautiful Building & Bronze Winner – Built Environment. These Awards are now recognised by the United Nations as part of their global ‘Save our fragile planet for future generations’ initiative. The judging criteria is guided by sustainability in its widest form – planet, people and prosperity, with community engagement being a consistent theme of the winners.

The Church Hall featured as part of this refurbishment programme, requiring the existing timber framed windows and external doors be replaced. The design brief was for these to be recyclable with slim sight-lines so that natural daylight into the hall is maximised.  Black framing, security and insulation were other key considerations in the planning process.

The Church Hall windows and doors were replaced with both the thermally broken Comar 5P.i Casement window system and the 7P.i Rebated and Horizontal Sliding door systems.  These aluminum windows and doors offer outstanding weather performance and reduce heat loss through the trademark P.i thermal break ensuring low U-values so energy bills are minimised. The Comar 5P.i windows and 7P.i doors proved to be the perfect choice complementing the existing lead light windows of the church building whilst fully complying with the standards specified by all planning parties involved.

All Comar approved fabricators are required to have the technical expertise to attend pre-site meetings and provide detailing. K2 Aluminium Systems liaised closely with the specifiers to provide design advice and detailing which ensured the project ran smoothly and met site deadlines.
