Celebrating the great, the good and the simply outstanding

This year the Offsite Awards has seen fierce competition with over 200 entries across 22 categories from high profile names, all competing to be crowned as industry leaders of the offsite manufacturing and construction sector. The judges have had the challenging task of deciding the finalists of the 2019 Offsite Awards.

The team at EOS take full advantage of offsite manufacturing techniques by maximising the benefits of BIM Level 2 and embracing design for manufacture and assembly protocols to produce ground-breaking steel framing systems (SFS) which are revolutionising the way buildings are designed and constructed.

EOS are celebrating success at the Offsite Awards and have announced that they have reached the finals in no less than five categories this year including:

  • Best Use of Steel Technology – The Ram Quarter
  • Housing Project of the Year –The Ram Quarter
  • Leisure Project of the Year – The Travelodge, Middlesex Street, London
  • Education Project of the Year – Sarah Swift Building, University of Lincoln
  • Healthcare Project of the Year – Sarah Swift Building, University of Lincoln

Steve Thompson, Managing Director of EOS said of the awards success:

“We are really chuffed – it’s fantastic to be nominated in five categories of these prestigious awards – especially taking into consideration the calibre of the competition and variety of projects. This is testament to a progressive approach, the dedication of the EOS team and the partnerships we have formed with some of the most forward-thinking companies in the construction industry.”

The Ram Quarter

The inspiring new Ram Quarter development in the heart of Wandsworth creates a new residential community, with shops, restaurants and riverside walks. Transforming the former Young’s Brewery site where beer has been brewed since 1533 – The Ram Quarter sensitively integrates historic Grade II buildings into the scheme which provides accommodation for boutiques, restaurants, a craft-brewery, a brewery museum and 650 new exclusive loft style apartments. Working in partnership with Ardmore – EOS designed, manufactured and supplied a range of 15,000m2 of SFS and 280m2 load-bearing steel systems for the project.  From SFS infill for five new medium to high-rise blocks to a bespoke load-bearing system of internal pods within the listed brewery house – EOS worked in close collaboration with all construction partners to develop offsite manufactured light gauge steel systems that met the exacting project requirements.

The Travel Lodge, Middlesex Street, London

Located on the boundary of the City of London, this prestigious £25 million, eight-storey flagship Travelodge project, has been created as a declaration of renewed confidence following recent investment in the brand. The aim of the project was to deliver a fully clad offsite manufactured SFS panelised system, complete with the sub frame of SFS infill panels, pre-fixed to a lightweight innovative stone cladding system. Once delivered, the fully formed panels were craned in and fixed back to the substrate. A key part of the construction was achieving a fully flush finish on the external side. The impressive development, built to BREEAM Excellent standards, was delivered through innovative engineering combined with technically advanced offsite manufacturing. The greater efficiency and quality associated with sustainability is also helping to make this Travelodge more commercially successful. There is growing evidence that BREEAM Excellent buildings provide increased rates of return for hotel operators. BIM Level 2 technology combined with design for manufacture and assembly protocols reduced errors onsite and snagging – as well as enhancing the performance throughout the lifecycle of the building.

Sarah Swift Building, University of Lincoln

Named after the Lincolnshire born Dame Sarah Swift, who founded the Royal College of Nursing – the 5,500m2 building has been designed to house the School of Health and Social Care and the School of Psychology at the University of Lincoln. The new academic building accommodates a diverse range of learning and research spaces which will support continued growth in the disciplines and enhance the student learning experience. As the five-storey building houses laboratories which include vibration-sensitive equipment – the main contractor had to meet specific design specifications. A key element of the brief for this specialist building was to create spaces that have the right environmental conditions, vibration levels and acoustic separation for their different functions, while ensuring the building remains simple to commission, build and operate. EOS designed and manufactured a robust steel framing infill panel solution for the project to meet the design and engineering brief.
