Accurate assessment of the condition of previously used scaffold board is an important health and safety issue. BM TRADA’s one-day course, Principles of visual grading of scaffold boards and inspection of used boards, is designed to help improve site safety and help delegates demonstrate competency
Scaffold board enables workers to carry out their work, at height, safely, on a building. Failure can lead to risk of serious injury or even death. The course is aimed at addressing the needs of scaffolding companies and scaffolding contractors who will inspect and assess the condition of previously used scaffold boards before issuing them to site.
The course, which takes place on September 26th and December 10th at BM TRADA’s headquarters High Wycombe, provides delegates with an understanding of the BS 2482: 2009 grading rules, advice on how to store boards correctly and assess whether used boards should be re-issued or withdrawn from use.
It also provides an understanding of inspection techniques and specifications, and ends with a practical inspection of used boards and a written test.
Philip O’Leary, head of BM TRADA’s Timber Technology Investigations department, says:
“Used scaffold boards may look scuffed and worn, yet can still provide long service. At first glance boards which have been used many times or for long periods may appear the same as boards which have been ‘abused’. . How do you tell which is which? This course is designed to deal with just that issue.”
