BM Trada strengthen its technical team

BM TRADA has expanded its market-leading technical team with the appointment of two new technical consultants to further strengthen its expertise in timber and timber-related markets.

Former sustainable building inspector Ben Sharples brings several years experience of working for the National House Building Association (NHBC), while Neil Louison joins BM TRADA having previously worked as a lab technician with a multi-billion dollar manufacturer of motion and control technology systems.

BM TRADA has developed an enviable reputation for the quality of its advice and the expertise of its technical consulting team, which deals with a wide range of issues from timber technology, strength grading of timber, condition surveys, timber frame construction and expert witness work. The two new additions will take the number of consultants up to ten and provide even greater continuity of service.

Ben joined NHBC in 2005 as an energy assessor before quickly progressing to the position of trainee building control surveyor, where he was tasked with carrying out checks on houses and apartments for compliance with Building Regulations. He was then promoted to sustainable building inspector – one of four in the UK – where he accredited sustainable testing on new build homes. He was also the department representative for advice on Code for Sustainable Homes.

He then took a sabbatical in the shape of a backpacking adventure visiting 15 countries in four continents in ten months. “To me it was a valuable trip with lifelong memories,” he says. “It opened my eyes to the more important parts in life and has given me many stories to tell. I’m now looking forward to a challenging and enjoyable career with BM TRADA and to bringing my knowledge of the house building sector to an already-impressive team.”

Meanwhile, Neil joins as a trainee having spent the last three years with Parker Chomerics with a wide range of responsibilities including manufacturing conductive elastomer ring seals for high conductivity components and testing thermal gels for heat conductivity.

“I am now looking for the next step up in my career where I can utilise my skills and develop them further,” he says. “I look forward to developing my expertise working with BM TRADA and providing the same high level of expertise to its valued clients.”
