Fordingbridge are proud to have worked with Emission Zero Architects to help Costa in reducing the energy usage at their Wrekin Retail Park, Telford coffeehouse. This zero energy retail building marks a significant step forward in Costa’s objective to reduce their impact on the environment.
The foundation for this endeavour lies with their ‘Good Together’ campaign which ensures the long term sustainability of the organisation, while also being a force for good for society. The three strategic pillars of Good Together; Team and Community, Customer Wellbeing and Environmental Management, look to mitigate the organisations footprint through efficient supply chain management.
The structure uses Fordingbridge’s signature glulaminated timber frame technology along with many additional sustainable construction techniques. The building’s architecture was designed to express its high environmental and energy performance. The striking curved timber aesthetic creates a curved roof which is covered by an extensive photovoltaic array. The scalloped canopy on the north elevation protects the building from solar gain, as well as providing al fresco dining space and a passive ventilation strategy, which works in conjunction with lighting and occupant heat gain to ensure a comfortable internal environment throughout the year. All design elements are balanced to contribute to the building reaching an Energy Performance Asset Rating of A+
