Apprentice success as Novus builds for the future

Novus Property Solutions has added 17 new apprentices to its workforce after putting a talented group through its paces during the company’s Apprentice Week initiative.

The company, which was named Employer of the Year at the Construction News Awards earlier this year, has hired more than 3,000 apprentices in its 115-year history, and its commitment to nurturing the leaders of the future was underlined by the success of this year’s recruitment drive.

Young applicants from a range of different trades, including painters and decorators, joiners and multi trades, were selected to take part in the Novus Apprentice Week programme at the company’s head office in Stoke-on-Trent, in which candidates undertake a number of practical building challenges as well as health and safety training.

The participants were assessed against various criteria, including work ethic, initiative, and communication skills, whilst working on a two-day project to create a new allotment at Thistley Hough Academy in Stoke-on-Trent for the benefit of the local community, encapsulating the company’s values.

The programme culminated with each candidate being interviewed by Novus board members, and, after a meeting involving all the directors, 17 successful individuals were offered an apprenticeship. With both managing director Neil Hand and chairman Stuart Seddon having started their careers as apprentices at the company, hiring the next generation of apprentices is something which the directors take a keen interest in.

All of this year’s successful apprentices will be entered into Novus Property Solutions’ Apprentice of the Year award, the winner of which will be announced in December.

Stuart Seddon said:

“Apprentices have been hugely important to the success and longevity of Novus Property Solutions over the course of our history. Having individuals throughout the business who have cultivated a deep understanding of the company’s principles, its ethos, and its values helps to breed a strong culture of unity and solidarity throughout our staff.

“I would like to congratulate this year’s successful apprentices for showing the qualities we look for and working so hard to achieve the reward of a place within the company.”
