A-Plant has invested over £1 million in a new transport fleet that is capable of double stacking accommodation units on customer sites. The new vehicles help A-Plant’s Accommodation Division offer a more efficient delivery and installation service to customers.
Working closely with key suppliers Lancashire DAF, Fosters Commercials and Palfinger, A-Plant has purchased a number of specially modified vehicles. Based on 32 tonne DAF trucks and fitted with 78 tonne Palfinger cranes, the new vehicles have the capacity to double stack 32 ft. accommodation units on site.
Ian Needham, A-Plant’s Director of Accommodation said:
“We believe we are one of the only national accommodation hirers to be able to double stack such large accommodation units from our vehicles, meaning we can now offer a more cost and time efficient delivery service.”
“Despite the impressive height they reach when double stacked, safety is not compromised. The vehicles incorporate Palfinger’s High Performance Stability Control (HPSC) which enables safe working within tight spaces, plus they also prevent post-oscillation in the event of rapid braking or load changes.”
The chassis of the vehicles has been developed by Lancashire DAF, whilst the body and ancillary equipment have been manufactured by Fosters Commercials. The Palfinger 78002 SH loader crane has been fitted to the new fleet.
Earlier this year, A-Plant was the first plant and tool equipment rental company in the UK to achieve Whole Fleet Accreditation (WFA) under Transport for London’s Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS). The firm was only the second company in the whole country to secure nationwide accreditation which applies across A-Plant’s 140-strong Service Centre network and its entire transport fleet. The process involved a stringent audit of A-Plant’s 1,790 vehicle fleet, comprising 430 cars, 1,060 vans and 300 HGVs.
A-Plant Accommodation offers a hire fleet of over 16,000 units, from a single cabin to fully linked site complexes, through dedicated Accommodation Service Centres across the UK. The range of temporary accommodation available includes mobile and static welfare units, green specification accommodation units, secure stores, fire certificated accommodation and multi-combination offices, canteens, drying rooms, toilets and shower units.
