A major student residential and mixed-use scheme in Vauxhall has been granted planning permission by Lambeth Council. Designed by tp bennett for developer Downing, the application is for a 37-storey student residential building and a six-storey commercial office development on the west side of South Lambeth Road.
The redevelopment will replace an existing two storey, 18-unit commercial office creating an additional 841 student beds within the borough, which currently accommodates an estimated 21,000 full time students. The rooms respond to the lifestyles of today’s students and feature studios and en-suites for either five, six or seven cluster units. The units are offered at different price ranges and open to a wider market including more at affordable levels. The scheme also includes a 201sq m ground floor café and reception area.
The second, low linear podium designed building will feature 3,583sq m open-plan, commercial office space as well as a multi-use games area on the roof. The main entrance is positioned inside a central courtyard within the site that can be used as outdoor space for tenants.
The project will enhance the local area by replacing outdated office buildings with a vibrant centre of activity around high quality, modern and sustainable facilities and is situated approximately 330m from the Vauxhall rail, bus and underground interchange.
The scheme is Downing’s second in Vauxhall, the developer is also delivering the neighbouring Atlas development at 30-60 South Lambeth Road, due for completion in 2018.
