Grand Designs Live will return to London Excel in a few weeks’ time, welcoming its incredible annual showcase of the latest trends, innovations and unseen products across the thriving home sector. Spanning 29 April to 7 May, the expansive and unique event promises to break down conventional limitations to home building, hosted by Grand Designs guru Kevin McCloud.
Visitors to the show can hear from a multitude of experts at the Grand Theatre, sponsored by Airflow; get advice from industry heavyweights at the popular Ask An Expert service, sponsored by Express Bi-folding Doors; as well as see leading chefs at work and discover an array of hi-tech appliances in The Live Kitchen, sponsored by Miele.
An engaging line-up of talks will take centre stage at the Grand Theatre, including ‘Top Tips for Planning Your Own Grand Design’ presented each day by different ‘Grand Designers’, along with ‘Meet the Grand Designers’ sessions, in which these TV favourites will discuss the challenges and victories that undertaking ambitious projects can present. The highly-anticipated ‘Celebrity Grand Designs’, taking place on 29 & 30 April and 6 May, will delve into the secrets behind celebrity self-builds and renovations; while ‘DIY For Everyone – Learning How to Do It Yourself in the Home’, presented every day from 1 – 7 May by Simon Bessell of The DIY School, will teach budding DIY-enthusiasts everything they need to know about the basics of home improvement.
Visitors with a keen interest in interiors can the learn tricks of the trade in an ‘Interior Design Masterclass’ on 30 April in the Grand Theatre, led by Architectural and Interior Designer Daniel Hopwood, of Studio Hopwood, and top interiors designer Sophie Robinson. Hopwood and Robinson will also reveal the worthy winner of the Grand Interior Room Sets for 2017.
Those with their own design ambitions can hear from RIBA Chartered Practices on pitching for projects and exploring client briefs on 1 May with ‘The Architect Grand Pitch’; while Ian T Thompson of Airflow will expand on ‘Building Regulations Affecting Ventilation in the Home’ on 5 May. Upcycler, designer, TV Presenter and founder of Reestore Ltd., Max McMurdo, will present ‘Max Hacks’ on 2 and 3 May, demonstrating how to transform a standard piece of flat-pack furniture into something that is truly unique. Adding to the jam-packed programme, Piers Taylor from the BBC 2 TV series “The House that 100k Built” will show how to stretch a self-build budget for the ultimate dream home on 7 May, through his seminar ‘Doing More With Less’.
Garden buffs can join Grand Designer and food grower Mark Diacono on 4 May, along with Landscape and Garden Designer James Alexander Sinclair, as they discuss ‘Your Garden – The Good, The Bad, The Ugly’.
