Five buildings in the South East have won RIBA South East Awards from the Royal Institute of British Architects, which will be announced at a prestigious awards ceremony held at Mercedes-Benz World in Weybridge on Thursday 17 May 2018, in recognition of their architectural excellence. The event will be hosted by ITV Meridian presenter, Stacey Poole.
Regional Jury Chair, Sarah Featherstone of Featherstone Young, said of this year’s RIBA South East Award winners:
“The variety of the entries was fantastic, ranging from private houses to the larger public and institutional buildings. The South East has an incredible architectural heritage, with buildings that have the capacity to amaze, inspire and improve our quality of life.”
The winning buildings are:
Kent:
Sibson Building, University of Kent, Canterbury by Penoyre & Prasad
Black House, Kent by AR Design Studio
Surrey:
City of London Freemen’s School Swimming Pool, Ashtead by Hawkins\Brown
Oatlands Close, Surrey by SOUP Architects
East Sussex:
Studio in a Ruin, East Sussex by Carmody Groarke.

Oatlands Close – RIBA South East Small Project of the Year
RIBA South East Award winners will also be considered for a highly-coveted RIBA National Award in recognition of their architectural excellence, which will be announced on Thursday 21 June. The shortlist for the RIBA Stirling Prize for the best building of the year will be drawn from the RIBA National Award-winning buildings later in the year.
